Wouldn’t it be cool if you could relate all your facebook friends to everyone in your outlook contacts and then download up-to-date information to your phone? Well we’re nearly there! There is a great app call Fonebook available to download for free.
The app is installed on your computer and it can automatically download Birthdays, Photos and Status updates directly into your contacts in your Outlook. As far as I can figure out it matches facebook friends to outlook contacts by email but the app allows you to filter all the unmatched friends and assocaite them to Contacts manually. I just found out that you can keep it running in the background and it will automatically run every 10 minutes if you so wish.
Once all your contacts are updated in your outlook you can then sync your phone with your computer to get all the photos and birthday reminders on your phone … pretty cool eh? I haven’t has any issues with the app yet.
Lets go one step further, why shouldn’t we be able to get phone numbers and addresses and information you really need on your phone once your friend has given you access to see that information on Facebook? The author of Fonebook says its in Facebook’s privacy terms and conditions, which I partly understand unless Facebook are planning on releasing something that does this? who knows.
Thanks for a great app and I’ll love to see a Windows Mobile based app soon

I just read about this application on Steve’s ‘Geek In Disguise‘ and since he seemed pretty excited about it I decided to try that out right away. The application syncs your friends photos and birthday from Facebook right into Outlook and if you have a Windows Mobile it syncs to your mobile as well. This way you get the personal picture of all these people in your Outlook contacts, but also on the emails they send you, and you’ll have all the birthdays as a calendar entry (with reminder) in your Outlook calendar. Nice.
And since it’s synced with the mobile as well, you get a more visual presentation of the people that call you (if they’re part of your Facebook friends obviously). I’m not sure yet if I want that for everyone, but let’s give it a try anyway :) If you are a bit of a Facebook addict like myself and use Outlook you should definitely give this a try: Fonebook.

For those of you who are really into the whole Facebook thing, you might want to check out Fonebook. It’s a Windows utility for syncing your Facebook contact’s details with Outlook 2003/2007. Nifty.

Fonebook - what an awesome app - it syncs my friends photos from Facebook direct in to Outlook which means when I get an email from someone I now get their mugshot in the right hand corner of the message. Even better, when I sync my Windows Mobile device to Outlook I get their photo when they call, txt or whatever.
This application works with both Outlook 2003 and 2007. It is also know to work with most modern Nokia's and all Windows Mobile Smartphones
Fantastic work Ross and kudos to Jason for the original idea.

With the new Facebook app Fonebook, you can sync up your Facebook contacts with your Outlook contacts. The application works with both Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007. As an added bonus, if you also use a Nokia or Windows Mobile smartphone, you can then copy your contact's photos over to your phone, too! Currently Fonebook copies your contacts' photos, web addresses, About Me details, and Status Details into your Outlook. If you are using Outlook 2007, their birthday will be copied over too. The application was written by Ross Dargan after a blog post by Jason Langridge (aka "Mr. Mobile") mentioned how Facebook contacts could be used in Outlook.

"Nathan Weinberg (InsideMicrosoft) upped a nice article about Fonebook which is an application that allows you to transfer your contacts from Facebook to Outlook 2007/2003."

"Fonebook is a free add-in that allows you to synchronize Facebook contacts along with a few details to Outlook 2003/2007 and in turn to any Mobile Device."
Microsoft Blog News 24/07/2007
"Fonebook is a really cool application that will allow you to transfer your contacts from Facebook to Outlook 2007/2003. The current version copies profile pictures, web addresses, about me details, and status details (plus birthdays in Outlook 2007) from your Facebook account into Outlook, which makes for an extremely useful automated way of getting pictures of your friends. Sync Facebook to Outlook, then sync it to your phone, and you’ll start to see pictures of your friends when they call you."

"This is what I love about the Blogosphere! I wrote a blog article about how cool it is that people are uploading their profile pictures on Facebook meaning that you can then use them in your Outlook Contacts.
Well - literally the same day Ross Dargan wrote an application to automate that process so that your Outlook will be synchronised with your Facebook contacts... then they are sync'd onto your Windows Mobile device!"
